DMF Self Portrait

Picking up photoshop where I left off in concept art, I begin this term with the post of my self portrait. I look annoyed because the picture this image derives from is of me being forced to drink Ihop coffee in absence of mountain dew. The background was a sweet space image I found that I just decided to have me stand in front of.

I was like yeah whatever!

Today began with the drawing of a creature known as a Quartagan. Quartagan are aquatic squid like creatures which have moves to live on land, however that natural body shape makes life on land difficult thus they require the aid of steam powered devices to move around. They are the alien equivalent of a fat guy on a segway.

They however most notibly boring to draw so I soon moved on to a different idea for today. I decided to revisist the sketch from last week I did of Malone and Marion but to add color and deffinition. I am rather pleased with the result.

On a final note my buddy Brent also sent me a link to this Comic. I enjoyed it

What's chillin' Otter pops?

Continuing work on the concepts of the space pirates we come to the sketches of the Galacans. In the story the Galacans have managed to conquer most of the galaxy and become the dominant race, as well as force most humanoids into their servitude. I think Hastings made up some lore to back up why they are so war like...something about a giant clam or pearl? I don't know, anyway....
The Galacans in basically otter people, which fits well with the nautical space theme. Today I did a basic sketch of a more realistic Galacan concpet before deciding it was not what I was after and went back to my cartoon style, except like...otterized. I tried to capture a wide variety of different emotions and expressions.

I have to give some credit to Disney, its not easy making animals show emotion. And it deffinantly not easy trying to make a creature as hairy as an otter look particularly feminine.

Near the end of the day though my creativity reached that point where the silliness became over whealming and i found myself drawing my best freind from highschool as an otter man. Although Brent is not actually a Galacan I must admit to seeing a certain resemblence.

Sky Pirates

So I finally settled on doing a bunch of stuff involving the sky pirates Kyle, Tasty and I made for our current Ancar campaign. I will probably have drawings of the crew, the ship, enemies and planets they go to. Today I did some roguh sketches of Marion and Malone and a sketch of the Dread ship Wolfface.

Note to self.....do a study of wolf ships in their natural habitat and take notes for Wednesday..
