Gotta lot of Good things, Stranger!

Got a bit of Random smattering of things this week. Two new normal RTC comics and two other things I made while I was bored.

1."Wake up! Do Somethin' Funny"
This idea came to me several months ago while Kyle and I were messing around with the Sims. In the case of such a game that would make us the "cruel powers that be". Cruel is a good term because I always wake my Sims up at odd hours of the night because I get tired of watching them sleep all the time...its boring. The idea to turn this into a comic hit me while I was at work so I made some rough sketches on my break and made a digital version when I got home that night. Hopefully you will admire it for its simplicity.

2."I am old Now"
Actually as a matter of fact I am old now, 21 to exact. This comic idea hit me a bout a week before my birthday however, while in anticipation. I sketched up a rough story board in my sketch book the afternoon before the party...which was good because it is likely I would have forgotten it otherwise. That being said you can deduce that this comic was not based on the actually events of that morning. Truth be told I far less well then my cartoon persona.
All in all I'd say the 21st birthday, a deep reflective experience. A harrowing if you will, in which one must put aside the past emerge from the haze set in by the devils fire water and press forward stronger then before....That sounded good. I shall have to stash that away for use in something later. For now enjoy.

3. "Oom!"
This was the comics I had been working on for a while to submit to the blizzard comic contest. Unless you are a WoW player it is unlikely you will understand, so I shall offer a quick nauseating explanation. If you play wow stop reading HERE.....

WoW Healer and Mana conservation for Noobs:
Okay for the rest of you. In The World of Warcraft players go into "Dungeons" in groups of 5. These "5-mans" are "instances" of better then average "trash" and "bosses" with "blue" and sometimes "epic" "loot". To get through the dungeon the group must work as a team. The group consists of 3 roles. One heavily armored character the "Tank" who distracts enemies and takes the damage, 1 "Healer" whos sole job is to cast healing spells on the group and keep people alive, and 3 "DPS" who deal high damage per second to the enemies the group faces. Now Since the amount a healer can heal is determined by how much "Mana" or magical energy they have. After a fight a healers mana is usually low to empty and the healer needs to eat or drink to restore it. In "Cata" the latest expansion for Worlf of Warcraft the "top tier" food/drink is "Manacake" which can only be acquired via a summoned "Mage Table" er go you want one of the dps in your group to be a mage since then you get "Mage Cake". Now in a standard dungeon run a healer can easily eat anywhere from 10-20 pieces of mana cake, depending on how bad the group is. Soooooo...... that should be all you need to know to understand the following cartoon if you do not play the World of Warcraft.

4. "The Green Muse"
This is not a comic, just a drawing I did one afternoon while I was kinda bored. I have kinda been brain storming ideas for a comic involving the absinth and mt. dew each having their own distinct green fairies, and they don't get along. I don't know I am still working on it. If you have any ideas or suggestions let me know.

I Sent a Comic To Blizz!

Yep thats right after several months of just working on it in my in between time in the computer lab, I finally finished my entry to the Blizzard comic contest today! See it below...

The ideas came to me when i realized just how much mana cake Sylendria ,my poor priest, ate in a single dungeon run. Nearly a whole stack sometimes! I can only imagine the ill effects it would have over time on her slender little physique, not mention old dwarf priests named "Wilf" who are 85 and have "Diabetus". At any rate, I will hopefully at least get my work posted with the other comics on the Blizz site in a few weeks. Until then you can see it here. Also below I have versions of each of the party members separately. I was rather sad some of there details were lost when i finally jumbled them all together in a group.

If you can guess which 1 is my favorite you get guild Kudos.

Well Excuse me but I think You've got my Chair...

This week I bring you 2 old remakes and 1 semi-remake

1. "The Chair"
This was always a favorite of mine, hailing from the second RTB I believe. The newer version is a little different then the original. I trimmed it down by a panel or two and changed the dialog around a bit to make it funnier and to make it reference "The Chair" more directly.
It occurs to me some of you might not get this initially. To avoid ask you to at least be semi-familiar with the George Strait song "The Chair".

All in all I consider this remake a shining success. The initial concept and joke has remained intact while at the same time improved, while the art look significantly cleaner as well. As I recall the original was kinda clunky and ended with Colton saying something to the effect of "You can still cry on the Jukebox together". Looking back it was some what laughable if only for the fact that no one quite got it but me and Colton yet they still pretended too. At any rate, this one has always been some what special to me and I am glad that it turned out so well in the remake.

2. "At The Movies"
The following is also a remake of a sort, the original was one I made several years ago while I was experimenting with gimp, although I think I had some version of this even longer ago that I did on paint...possibly? Anyway, this one is wonderful in the beautiful simplicity with which is conveys the awkwardness of the the high school experience. The featured characters are of classic Brent (as opposed to neoclassic Brent) and Jen.

Jen has always been an interesting character as she is one of the few characters I have who is not based to a point, on a real person. I only had her show up in a handful of comics in which I wanted to Brent interact in an awkward romantic manner. I sort of abandoned using Jen as a character after Brent actually got a girl friend, because well... drawing him interacting awkwardly with his real girl friend seemed funnier. At any rate I am defiantly considering reviving Jen as a character for future strips.

3. "The Beta"
Sadly I am not quite done with this one. Photoshop decided to crash at 3 am this morning and I took that as a sign that perhaps I needed to get some sleep. However this morning I decided to toss up what I had at least for now. I will probably finish putting in the last few bits of color and the Dialog bubbles later today. Until then let me just tease you with the words...

"Let me tell you about the Fucking Beta!"

New Comics...well Newish

First things first. Read it...Love it...Live it. I Do.

Below are 2 remakes of old comics and a finally completed version of the long awaited "Operation Hold Me Naked". I hoped to have more finish on a few of them, however I was having some issue getting the tablet to work properly since the computer got repaired and once things got sorted out did not have the time I had hoped. Well at any rate

Operation Hold Me Naked.
This is one I have been meaning to make for some time. I drew up the sketches quite some time ago and had since lost them somewhere until recently. This is the first time I have mixed real objects into my comics, hence the joke. not sure if I will do it again. At any rate the "poster" is very real and is hanging on the wall of the kitchen.

"What do you Mean he Won't Return them!".
The following is based on actual events from Trevor's adventure with the UPS some time ago. I find it best not to ask to many questions about this comic. Do I really want to know why Trevor purchased bondage pants? Do I really want to know why Mr. Jersey did not decide to return said bondage pants?..... Some times its best not to know

Absolute Crap.
This is another remake of a sort, of an old one from the silver age of the RTB. One Trev and I came up with that Eichner (needless to say) did not allow in the paper. Well its back and here it is.

RTC Spring Project

For lack of better name this will be called Operation Hold Me naked, in honor of a the comic I made prior.

Basic objective is to bolster the numbers of comics, while continuing to home my tablet skills and define a digital style for my work.

This is really more of a continuation of the RTC Restoration Project from last summer. Although bigger and grander then before. In addition to remaking old sketches in the digital format I intend to mix it up and also produce brand new strips as well. The I idea I have is about 1 of each a week.

Some things I have been looking at alot for inspiration are Axe Cop, Penny Arcade, Brad Neley and Fables.

Not all of these are specifically artistic source material but certainly help me brain storm the funny. Well except fables which is just epic.
