Final Projects as a Whole

Here are all the comic I made this term. I have dived them into 3 categories.

The Stand Alones.
These were a handful of strips that just sort of came to me and I rolled with. Kyle assisted in brainstorming out some of these. I am pleased with how they turned out.
"Cutie Nicknames"

"BBQ Sauce on Those Walls"

"The Dueling Roses"

"Prepare the Yamatto Cannon"

"The Beta-Guy"

Trevor's Mayhem (A miniseries of unfortunate events)
As a brief comment on these as a whole. These were slightly cleaned up versions of very a very old series I made in high school. The original was a bit shorted then this and certainly less organized.
"Lock the Door and Get the Rifle"
he actually did something like this when we were 16 with the game "Gun"

"I'm not thinking anything Sexual"
He actually did this too...

"Manga Porn"
He would have done something like this.

"How Often Does He Do This?"

"Resolution"
He actually did this too. More then once, quite frequently too. In fact "Look Asians" was what he offered as his "foreign policy" when running for student body president our senior year.

The Creation of T-sev.
These were just some strips I thought would be kinda fun to do. A little different then the stuff I usually do but hopefully still entertaining. Again they draw on the character of Trevor heavily, no doubt becasue I had just finished the previous mini series and was still in the "Trevor Mind set"

So there you have it for this term. I have some sketches of what it to come in the future that I may scan and put up soon. I have some more comics with Artemis and T-sev as well as a few of Kyles continued attempts to summon a succubus and hopefully some with Brent who was strangely absent for most of these.

I Have Created a Monster...

This week I decided to try something a little different. I have a 3 comics that follow each other as a sort of mini series. The purpose was to introduce the new character of HK-Trevor-7, a parody of the HK-47 of the Starwars Knight of the Old Republic franchise. These comics also introduce Artemis, who is Nate's computer. I will admit I had been watching Iron man before I made these and I think some inspiration came from there. These are about 99% done, the other 1% is just things I decided I wanted to change at the last minute, the first of which is to make funny fake wiki articles for the second comic instead of jus taking from the real ones, so for now the screans are blank. And the second was to change Artemis' voice bubbles to be a little more unique. Probably green text in a dark bubble.

"We're Going to Use the Dewcore"

"The Dewcore is the Key to All of This"
This is where I need to eventually make up some funny fake wiki articles to put on the monitors in panels 2 and 4 I just haven't got to it yet.

"Its Alive! Its Alive!"
A typo almost had his one titled "Its Alice! Its Alice!"
The name of "Trevor-7" is meant to sound like "Trevor Evans", and "T-sev" is meant to sort of be like "Trev".

Expect to see more of both Artemis and HK-Trevor-7 aka "T-Sev" in the future to come.

Interactive Art Final Project Proposal

My concept for the final project would be to create a series of interactions between to generated characters. These interactions would illustrate the relation between the old and the new. Both characters would be cartoons drawn, drawing on my experience in the use of Photoshop and cartoon styles. To start with I will only have 2 characters however, with time I may add more that would have the option of spawning. However, only two characters will be spawned at any one time, one character representing the old generations and one the younger.

The characters will either slide or perhaps fade into place and a dialog bubble will appear over each of them. The older figure will say something from a predetermined set of recognizable quotes from classic literature. The second characters bubbles will be fed will quotes pulled from twitter. However this feed will search for posts pertaining in some vague way to the first characters quote based on key words taken from it.

A rough example of this would be character 1 says "Live by the sword die by the sword" and the second figure would be fed a random twitter post about swords.

Timeline:
Having roughly 4 weeks. Item are arranged for most difficult/ important to least. That way should a problem arise it will be earlier then later.

Week 1. Get the twitter feeder up and working and begin compiling some classic literature quotes

Week2. Using place holder characters, set up the character entrance and figure out exactly how the shape voice bubbles.

Week3. Draw final models for characters (however many that may be), explore the potential of different back grounds.

Week 4. Run final tests and work out bugs

Concept for Future

Below are some concept story boards that I will flush out on a later date. The first 3 are a short series which basically introduces the character of HK-Trevor-7. They will probably be visually based.

This is another rough concept I had which makes a joke of the act smoking tobacco pipes and how people in turn react to that. Right now the sketch in rough but I should flush it out when I go in to ink and color it.

Resolution

At last this situation is resolved. Justice can be served and mercy can visit me so that I might move on and work on other story lines. I am SO ready for a new story arch. When I began making this mini series I was eager because it meant to revival of some very old sketches and some more quantity for my book. But I quickly got tired of the repitive dialog and trying to find ways to avoid drawing the same shot of Trevor running through the door in the 4th panel. At any rate expect to see some concept sketches.

"Lock The Door and Get the Rifle"
Part 1. "This Doesn't Look Like You"

Part 2. "I'm Not Thinking Anything Sexual"

Part 3. "Anime Porn"

Part 4. "How Often Does He Do This?"

Part 5. "Thank You All For Coming"

Ah sweet sweet resolution...

A continuation from last weeks strip

For a few of my old fans from Harrisburg last weeks strip may have been recognized as the beginning of a short mini series. In whole it has 5 parts, of which I had been hoping to complete this week, however fell 1 short, so you don't get the resolution till next week. In the mean time enjoy these 3 of Trevor being Trevor.

"I'm not thinking Anything sexual"
This was inspired on an actual dialog I bared witness to once at a small convenience store.

"Anime Porn"
This comic concept was originally created by Trevor and I in the golden age of the Random Thought Book. The big give away is that it has Kenzie in it, who did not appear in many later comics. At any rate this was not based as much on an actually event as a "proposed event" that was never actually completed.

"How often does he do this?"
I think its time we saw another side of this conflict.

Mid Term Update

So far the we are sitting at the completion of 6 inked, colored and worded comics.
"Lock the Door and Get the Rifle!"
"Prepare the Yomatto Cannon!"
"Barbeque Sauce on Those Walls"
"The Duel of the Roses"
"Cutie Nicknames"
"Beta Guy"

This is good if only slightly behind of the timelines projection of having 8 at this point. However I have plans forming to rectify this by next weeks update on Monday. Monday Oct 31 was predicted to have 10 completed comics at that point, which I will meet by producing at least 4 strips this week. Below are two of these, and the other two are story board form.

These 4 new strips will accompany as well as complete the mini series I began with my single comic last week.

Beyond these 4 four strips for next week I have further plans for the weeks to follow. My original plan had called for the completion of 20 total strips, which would leave me with 10 more after next week. However this plan did not factor in thing like finals week and dead week, making that number seem a little more ambitious, leaving 5 or 6 as a much more reasonable number. I will set that then as my minimum for the rest of the term, however I will strive to create more if at all possible.

Reading Response 2

It would seem to me that the more recent work of interactive art tend to stray away from the classic interactive which Huhtamo speaks of. Where the works before were about a user acting upon an artists creation in order to explore and understand it, many of these more recent pieces are the artists creation acting upon the unknowing public. The artists creations are devices of technology programed to act upon the viewer in a way predetermined by the artists, keeping view interaction strictly passive.
In the work "Newtweek" for example, the artist creates his device too impose his altered news articles via a hack through the wireless internet. The viewer most likely doesn't even realize the web page they are viewing is altered at all. Or in the case of of Bismark's "Fulgurator" photographers whos cameras are effected would notice and in doing so may in fact be interacting with the work, however it is an interaction which does not change or effect the work.
Slightly different in presentation would be works such as the "Nemo Observatorium" or the "Listening Post". In the case of these works the viewer is clearly aware that they are experiencing the work of an artist, however their interaction is still strictly passive, and does not alter the presentation of the piece. This passive interaction is the overal theme seen throughout the majority of the winning works in question.

More Comics on the Way

Below is the first part of a short mini series I have begun. Last week I showed the uncolored un-dialoged inked version of this. It is a remake of an old concept I had back in high school after I friend of mine tried something similar to this when he was refused service at game crazy. I haven't thought of a title for it yet but it will probably involve the words "Part 1" in it.

I had some other uncolored inking to put up but they got stranded the mac I usually use on campus. I will get them up on here as soon as possible which should be some time this afternoon.

Update!

"Prepare the Yomatto Canon!"
This is one which is inspired by my favorite, if not ineffective tactic in Starcraft the classic "battlecruiser rush". I decided it would be funnier as well to not have Brent and I merely playing SC2 but quite literally piloting the cruiser itself. My only regret is the resolution was smaller then expected, thus giving the line a certain "thickness" which some, but not myself, will hopefully find appealing.

"Barbeque Sauce on Those Walls"
Below is the finished version of the line drawn strip I showed last week. And reading makes me hungry. Although for the most part I would say it is an overall success I may be forced to do some touch up color work later on. The bland background of the grey room walls is bugging me and I may need to add a little more spic the backgrounds of panels 1,3 and 4. But for now it will do as is.

Below is an uncolored comic which I may finish tomorrow afternoon, if I manage the time.

Next weeks I plan I have serveral sketches ready to be inked and colored. I have several that will continue the story presented in the last comic shown here, as well as 2 with separate stories. I am also in the process of working out a mini series or 2-3 parts that will involve the chaps conspiring to steal some of Kyle lost property. Expect and Oceans parody.

Back from the Summer!

SPECIAL PROJECTS WEEKLY UPDATE!

This week I have several new comics. They as follows

"The Duel of the Roses"
This one was inspired by an actual conversation between Kyle and myself while apartment hunting. All in all I consider this one a shining success combining a funny idea with well balanced visuals. Enjoy.

"Cutie Nicknames"
Kyle has a new girlfriend. I decided to make a commentary on the relationship.

"Beta Guy"
This is one I originally made a few years back and forgot about. Last spring I started to revamp it. However I got half way done and forgot about it again. Since then it was been sitting on my desktop collecting digidust. I found it yesterday and decided to finish it as well as give the dialog a reboot to keep it current.

Below is another currently unfinished work I have been working this week as well and intend to finish by next week. I will let the second panel fill you with anticipation for what is too come.

Beyond finishing the previous comic I also have some plans for next week and after. I have one or two rough sketches for new ideas and also have a few old unpublished works I am planning to make over including "RTB Goes to Hell" and a small series involving the infamous words "Nate! For the love of God lock the door and get the rifle".

The Final Two

THERE CAN BE ONLY....TWO?....
The following two are based on some of the sketches from last week. Both of which feature my siblings.

"I wanna see comics! COMICS!"

I through this one together in about 10 minutes while sitting at Lithia pond, and I have to admit I really liked the end result. This comics is the first to feature all over of my siblings as well as my step mom Jill. Also in the first panel it is to be noted the appearence of long time fan Carina Kelson, who was the winner of the "Random Though Comics, Random Comic Comeo Contest".

"Surprise! Real Pokemon!"

This idea was a long time is process. I wanted to make a comic for a long time comparing the noble cock fight, to lovable children's Pokemon. I had brainstormed a lot of idea but ultimately after seeing the success of the sketches i posted settled on this one.

An Overview

Here is Just a look an over view of all the comics I have made in the last term or so.
